“23. The Self cannot be known through study of the scriptures, nor through the intellect, nor through hearing learned discourses. The Self can be attained only by those whom the Self chooses. Verily unto them does the Self reveal himself.

24. The Self cannot be known by anyone who desists not from unrighteous ways,
controls not his senses, stills not his mind, and practices not meditation.”

Without controlling the senses there is nothing. This is the first step on the path. This is why Yoga has the yama and niyama as the first step. “Highly ethical in behavior” The mind must be controlled before meditation can even commence or there will be all sorts of fantasy and delusion.

Concepts are nothing, mind filling only. Everything needs to be realized or embodied. Knowledge is only information if it is not actually comprehended and embodied thru ones living or life. Reading a book and gathering thoughts and ideas does not give one advancement or capacity. Taking a training course and then parroting what one has learned is information is not teaching. One cannot teach what one does not have an embodiment of. The vessel teaching others can only teach to a level of which it is.

Gathering information does not give one experience. Neither does knowledge that is not lived. Knowledge is had by experiencing it then that knowledge becomes wisdom. This wisdom is then lived as it would be pragnaaparadha to not and has even more serious karma as a debt of it being not lived in accordance.

  1. thank you so much for this post. I am not sure if this is a setting on my computer or has to do with your website. But this post is full of advertisement that keep popping up when I try to scroll further down.

    • Councedence with the theme of the article. WordPress does what they want, no ads have anything to do with the blog at all.

    • You might want to consider an adblocker. They work like charm and are very easily found and installed.
