Crocodile semen for virility

In my years of studying and practicing Ayurveda, I continuously have seen western science prove Ayurveda. What I mean by that is seen in little pieces here and there, a new example that I came upon is below. (also have made other blog posts about some in the past…. see the post on “2013 nobel prize”)

Western science continues to prove things that Ayurveda has already known for over 5000 years and is written within texts. The problem within this is that these things that are found in Ayurveda are taken out of the context that actually makes them live and ut into a dead context to be singled out and researched and studied on their own.

I will explain.

In Charaka Samhita Sutra Sthana Chapter 25, the chapter in which the origin of life is expounded upon and then it goes into what is beneficial and what is nonbeneficial for life, substances are discussed and mention. One of these substances, the 10th one mentioned, happens to be crocodile sperm. It is mentioned as the best aphrodisiac (for lack of proper words to explain its context) or what is best for building the reproductive tissues.

10. Semen of crocodile (nakra retasa) Nakrareto vrishyanam – Having aphrodisiac action/virility enhancers (vrishya)

In Vajikarana Adhyaya in Chikitsa Stana Chapter 2 which is the Chapter on the treatment of sexual dysfunctions, building the sexual tissues, and building virility, we find crocodile semen mentioned again in its use in treatment in recipes….

If a man takes the meat of chicken, fried with the semen of the crocodile to his satisfaction then he cannot sleep during the nights because of strong erection of his genital organs. (Formulation : Vrishya Kukkuta Mamsa Yoga) [42-49]

The physician should collect semen of the sparrow, swan, hen, peacock, estruant crocodile (freshwater), and the nekoo crocodile (saltwater). He should also collect cow’s ghee, boar fat and sparrow fat, the flour of the shashtika rice and of wheat. With these drugs, pupalika, shashkuli, vartika, pupa, dhana, and such other varieties of eatables should be prepared. By the administration of these preparations, man becomes fully potent and with strongly erected genital organ, enjoys optimum sexual delight in women with stallion vigor. [10-13]

The semen of the crocodile and egg of hen should be fried in ghee and then it should be mixed with the powder of shashtika rice and the whole thing should be boiled in ghee. Out of this, pan cakes should be prepared. These sweet pan cakes should be taken followed by manda of varuni, if he desires to have sexual intercourse the day after, and if he wants to indulge in it with the vigor of an elephant. [28-29]

Thus it is said:

By the systematic course of these recipes, man is endowed with an adequate quantity of semen, strength and complexion and is capable of mating with the best of women with all the virility of a young horse of eight years of age. Whatever things gladden the heart, such as pleasant groves, ponds, hills, pleasing women, ornaments, perfumes, garlands and beloved friends and such other things which are liked by the man- all these acts as stimulating agents of virility. [30-31]

The chapter is actually part of a bigger comprehension that is not easily seen if one was just to read it. The chapter’s focus really is based in the necessity for human beings to go thru proper treatments to cleanse the individual and bring them to the highest state of health prior to conceiving a child so that one’s progeny is of the highest quality that they can be as well. It makes sense even if you do not understand Ayurveda.

Now I am using this as an example because everyone has to have their head rolling right now and rolling on the floor in laughter at the absurdity and how outlandish this sounds. if I was to mention it at all, it would be mocked. Crocodile semen.

And then this happens….

male-infertility-crocodile-sperm-motility

saltwater-crocodile-sperm-may-hold-secret-male-infertility

University of Newcastle researchers connect crocodile sperm …

and all of a sudden everyone is buying crocodile sperm on Amazon.com and the newest superfood to that absurd industry of pseudo mass marketed Oprah and Dr Oz health is now created…….. and crocodiles all over the world are being sexually assaulted.

buying a product that is then taken for one’s desirous effect of becoming more virile.Western science will continue to do their research on it and come to some conclusion down the road. Much of the time it falls to the side of being debunked. The fad then fades in 6 or 7 years. No idea as to the side effects of taking it would be known or even correlatable to its use.

Truth is that it actually works, and Ayurveda is Godly. You may see why in a moment.
and you gotta question…. how did they know this over 5000 years ago….. and how exactly do you go about procuring sperm from a crocodile. lol
3-Figure3-1.png

What a job to have.

There is a problem here though. It is because it is taken out of its context.

If one picks up the Ayurveda text and reads it on their own, they will come to their own conclusions about things with a wide assortment of ideas. The truth already lies in the scripture itself.

Understanding how the text is written is known by having a teacher that is expert and knowledgeable teaching it. Not by reading it without guidance and full teaching.

The chapter that the recipes/medicines are found in is in the “treatments” chapter. It is implied that one already understand a great depth to what treatments are in their details, when they are done, and how they are done.

A person, who takes these virilifying preparations in due dose and at a proper time, when his body channels have been cleaned, attains the virility, nourishment and strength. Depending up on the strength of the person, purification should be done before he starts these aphrodisiac recipes, as a dirty cloth does not get properly colored, similarly in an uncleaned body, the aphrodisiac recipes do not produce the desired effects. [50-51]

Proper dose

Proper timing

After proper cleansing of the body which is also a very detailed and concise science

In western medicine, when we have a disease, they give you a drug and mainly the only things that are ever said is that it needs to be taken with food so that you do not have a stomach issue or their might be certain foods that you are to not have but that is rare. Hardly is there much else ever said…. or understood from our modern science.

In Ayurveda, the recipe or the medicine is being used only after proper treatments are done. Those treatments are done to eliminate imbalances from the system and strengthen the digestive functions. From this place then the medicines are used, in the proper dosage to the individual, at the proper time which changes with the seasons and thru the day as per what the disease is and how the treatment of it requires.
What we do not comprehend is that taking the recipe or medicines without going through the proper treatments first to cleanse the system may result in creating a deeper disease. For example, if someone has no sperm count, there is a reason why that is. To take the herbs or medicines for this without dealing with the root cause… well that is an allopathic approach to Ayurveda and is not Ayurveda. Just taking the medicines will likely cause more of a disease because much of the vajikaran medicines are heavy to digest.

What is also needs to be followed for the medicine to work properly…

The individual is to remain celibate thru the entire treatments and while taking the medicine. Excessive sexual indulgence creates many diseases and excessive sex may actually have been the cause of the dysfunction in the first place. Excessive sex leads to emaciation and tissue depletion while complete suppression leads to impotency.

The recipes are to be only taken by an individual that is in control of his senses and his desires or it may prove harmful to that individual and to society.

These are not to be taken by anyone younger than 17 or older than 70.
Having sex after 70 deteriorates one’s life span and health greatly and having sex prior to 17 is prior to the bodies natural maturity which will also deplete the system and possibly stop the full maturity.

From this, you may see the broader comprehension of some of the vast variables taken into consideration and in the purview of Ayurveda that is completely missing in the Western thought. When you are in a hospital in America you get pudding in a plastic container that was made god knows when, as an example. Take a drug for a symptom, not ever being able to see the root cause nor understanding the greater variables already in play. No comprehension of digestion or toxicity of the system. Just take a drug.

You can buy many products said to be Ayurveda these days. The market place is filled with them to meet your desires and takes no care in anything but trying to sell it to you but it is not ayurveda at all and in some cases it is actually harmful to use from the actual ayurvedic view.

There are things I come across all the time that is a new discovery of western science that has been know for thousands of years already. This is just another example.

  1. Thanks, what an interesting article. I always wondered about this.

Geez, to put that perspective next to all the ICSI and IVF going on…

    Or your article on it..

A question of level of perception

    • I was about to say how crazy it sounds that western research would’ve picked up on ingesting crocodile semen to improve virility without being aware that it is mentioned in Ayurveda, and how it almost looks like stealing ideas. I mean, I can somewhat imagine how that would work back in the days from an ayurvedic standpoint, but western??… untill I realized all this is rhetorical, lol:

“and all of a sudden everyone is buying crocodile sperm on Amazon.com and the newest superfood to that absurd industry of pseudo mass marketed Oprah and Dr Oz health is now created…….. and crocodiles all over the world are being sexually assaulted.

I did not realize those three lines: “male-infertility-crocodile-sperm-motility, etc.” were hyperlinks.

  2. Not really on-topic except maybe for how western decisions/science relates to Ayurvedic knowledge. Would you be willing to share your views on face masks to protect oneself from viruses like Covid-19? It’s funny when I look around, most people wearing them here look like they are from asian descent. But recently there has been more talk about them in dutch politics etc. Obviously non-medical masks block a part of sneezing and coughing etc. then there’s the aerosols and how much does a non-medical mask protect you from inhaling and exhaling them? Anyway, there’s a lot written and said about all that. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2007800

All that said, wearing them to avoid corona infection seems sensible to me (but ofcourse, what do I know.). Ofcourse things depends on the type of fabric and the thickness of the fabric, it depends on the individual (say someone has asthma) etc. But the biggest question that I have is, how it impacts ones breath and how does that impact ones health? This might be or might seem like a minor thing… especially compared to how serious the Corona virus can be, but with our limited knowledge of the human body in the west, being ignorant of the depth that is behind breath, and all it’s subtleties like prana, vata and the complete role of vayu.. I wonder how serious the (negative) effects are to cover ones face , especially for extended periods of time. I’ve been looking into the relation between prana, vayu and vata for other questions that I have, but I thought I’d copy paste some of what I read here, because it seems relevant to me to this question aswell:

“The human body at times is called the chariot. The thought here is the body as the chariot houses the self, sva (one’s own being). The body depends on prana. This term is rooted in pra defined as the breath of life.
What sense is removed upon deep sleep? The breath continues day and night.
It is the chariot of this self, of one’s Being. It is the breath that can deliver up the self to the self. The breath is the essence that rides on the essence of the body which is the breath.
That is why there are so many approaches that involve the breath.

We gain support from the breath:
We have one breath, yet this breath has 3 parts:
    1. inward
    2. outward
    3. the rest point in between”

Prana and Simply defined stages of developement in meditation

“Prana is the Vayu that moves in the body.”
    https://trueayurveda.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/yoga-kundalini-
    upanishad-3/

“There are two principal Tattvas in the universe, the mind and Prana. Wherever there is Prana, there is mind also. Even in the external movement of breath beyond the nose, the mind is mixed with the external breath. Prana (energy) is the outer coating for the mind. Prana digests the food, turns it into chyle and blood and sends it to the brain and mind. (this is why real yoga does not deplete your prana or make you ungrounded in its real practice, yet most yoga practiced in the west is completely prana depleting. In yoga, as soon as you sweat you have hit your limit. Anything more is going to deplete prana. But we don’t practice that here in america, what we do is based upon western sweat your butt off, get a good work out and burn calories exercise, not yoga.)

After prana feeds the brain, the mind is then able to think and do Brahma-Vichara (enquiry into Brahman). The life of the mind is kept up through the vibration of the subtle psychic Prana which gives rise to the formation of thought. (This also speaks to how when prana is depleted or the person is ungrounded, the mind continues to run wildly, yes, that little voice in your head.)

Prana is gross. Mind is subtle. Mind is formed out of the conglomerate Sattvic essence of the five Tanmatras; whereas, Prana is formed out of the sum total of Rajasic essence of the five Tanmatras. That is the reason why mind is more subtle than the Prana.”

I wonder what your views are on this. Just to be clear, I don’t mean wearing a mask to go to a party or sit in a crowded bus and pretend we can live life as usual because we’re “protected by our mask” or something like that. I mean wearing a mask to do ones groceries or go to the doctors for example.

  3. What about studying Ayurveda B.A.M.S program with authentic Indian teachers in other countries? In my town there is opening B.A.M.S education system with authentic Indian teachers. There is introducing video about them, traditional Indian way of learning. It looks like good education, B.A.M.S program with Indian authentic teachers??

    • I would say if it is not the same BAMS and it is just being called BAMS beware. Depends upon where you live obviously. If there is no real Ayurveda hospital, you have no real clinical hours.
This all goes really deep and most Indians selling Ayurveda education to naive foreigners are only scam artists.
Just do your due diligence and realize that you are only cheating yourself out of a proper education and then people you would advise…. out of their “health and LIFE” by not getting the best education or by trying to find a cheaper or shorter course. The BAMS is 6 years in India. What is this BAMS you are talking about?

  4. Its 5 years long study (+1 or 2 years), theres hospital and theres rooms for students its all in one. I check their educations, they are all Indians and educated in India. So it looks nice education if they are educated indians.

    • Yeah, I cannot say anything without actually seeing what they are doing. 5 years long is a pretty good indicator though. But again, we have Frawley and the incredibly corrupt Annambhotla that created their Ayurveda University in Florida… (why Florida except because the level of corruption). If you are speaking of this place… I would pass.
Bottomline, learn sanskrit deeply first of everything.

  5. Actualy I live in Europe, and i saw the program, theres Sanskrit all 5 years trough study. Looks fine… i hope… will see and think about everything.

    • Hi Tanja,

I read your comments above. I’m from Europe aswell, and I’m planning on studying BAMS in India, but just out of curiosity, what university are you speaking about? Just to share, I spoke to two practicioners recently who followed the Ayurveda study at the university in The Hague of EISRA/”European Institue of Scientific Research on Ayurveda” (which is set up by an Indian BAMS doctor and ran by multiple people of whom an additional 2 indian BAMS doctors) and during the course of our conversation it became obvious they had no serious knowledge of Ayurveda whatsoever, up to the point of completely contradicting the scriptures. One for example has a line on his website stating “lentils and peanuts are less appropriate for pitta”. Allthough I haven’t been able to find a serious ayurvedic source on the properties of peanuts, lentils áre mentioned in the scriptures and they obviously aren’t described as being pitta provoking, rather the opposite. When I confronted him with that he simply redirected the conversation, speaking about how ones vikruti and emotions are more important than knowing how every separate substance work. Lol.

      Kind regards,

      Jesse

  6. Hi Brad,

Posting it here since you’ve mentioned Oprah in your article. Another so called “spiritual” big name accused of rape and sentenced to 19 years in prison. Oprah in the past brought attention to so-called “John of God” in her show. The guy has been accused of rape, even by his own daugther. He has been accused of even darker stuff aswell and he is also known to do surgeries without medical experience or education (yikes) under the excuse of “being posessed by the spirit of someone who was a doctor in his previous life”. There’s some footage of it and knowing the guy is a quack makes watching it absolutely disgusting. He also uses passionflower-herb pills as his go-to drug. Apparently it heals about anything ;). I wonder why he chose passionflower. Maybe because of its symbolism (and beauty) which speaks to the imagination op people, rather than its actual medicinal properties?

A great example of how full of crap (and dark) this world is indeed.

  7. Hi, I know this is unrelated to crocodile semen 🤷‍♂️ , but: for someone who works, is it ok to be taking cooked food that has been refrigerated overnight?

As I can’t see any other way to have food for work. Most people microwave their food, but I’d rather eat it cold than use a microwave? If it matters, I usually eat vegetables and red meat for lunch, I cook it the night before. Or is this basically being counterproductive and better off not eating at all?

    • Better to eat. Needs to be warm. We live in a time where lifestyles are very very unhealthy to the point where we do not know what healthy is. You do your best. The answers to your questions are all on this site, just search and you will find them. Plus the reading will teach you other things as well. Don’t look for short quick answers, learn.

    • Hi Lee,

      Thought I might share: https://trueayurveda.wordpress.com/2018/04/15/takra-butter-milk-again/#comment-3957

And just to note. I don’t think what I said here is what Brad intended when he said it was fine if it is the best I can do… “I think I will actually have to apply this “method” every day, because else… all I will do in my life will be cooking, eating, washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen. I wouldn’t mind, but it’s just not realistic.” … since before that comment I was speaking about doing it on my work days, but in this comment I thought of doing it literally every day to “save myself time” whilst being at home and in reality actually having the opportunity and time of making myself fresh and warm food, rather than cheating ;).

And just to be honest and transparent.. in reality, unfortunately, I often don’t follow any of all this.. not good.

  8. Study of Ayurveda that lasts 7 years sounds authentic? What is your opinion?
    Im looking ti study it.

    • 1. No learning Sanskrit = no studying real texts and probably just studying a teacher’s books which is not gonna teach you real Ayurveda. Look at Dr lad as an example and how he has taught pitta is aggravated in summertime and this is totally wrong yet western Ayurveda practitioners do not have a clue that this is totally wrong. The season is used in diagnosis as well as in treatment. When it is not correct = harm is done
      2. No study in the actual context in which the wisdom lies and comes from = no real deep knowledge. So much is learned in the actual context that is tied in with the classical texts. Without this, that knowledge doesn’t happen.
      3. No actual hospital means no real clinical hours = no real knowledge of how to treat. just like in a ‘real’ western medical university, there has to be an actual hospital. This isn’t putting crystals on people and calling it healing.
      4. No contact with that actual plants used for herbs and no real study of the actual herbs means no real knowledge and just using bs products probably pushed by a school because of their $$ kick back and you do not have any clue at all about things like and example of Dashmula churna that you get is not actually ‘dash’mula. It doesn’t have all ten roots because they are too hard to get in the same amounts. You are left with just mediocre knowledge at best. or like Shilijit, another herb, most all that you get is fake. If you do not know how the processing of herbs is done, you cannot know if something is correct. You can’t even know how old an herb is if you never actually have all of this. Lots of herbs sold on the market are already dead as far as potency. How would you know this if there is not proper botany in the education? Gonna have that in a foreign country eh?
So if you do not know this stuff, you don’t even know that the herbs you are prescibing someone are fake or old or etc and there will be no results thus giving you a bad name as well as ayurveda.

I can go on and on with the things that are necessary for a proper education.
I can tell you that 99% of people practicing really do not know squat. The Indians that have gone thru the BAMS hardly know anything because the syllabus sucks that bad. Westerners don’t know because the stuff they are being taught is from a teacher’s book who has either watered things down for the western mind (because of #2 above) or they don’t know themselves and are just another Indian cheating foreigners.

Bottom line, do not cheat yourself on education.
Everyone says their teacher is the best and not like those others and they are completely full of bs. naive people do not have any discernment or way to judge.

Personally, i do not advise anyone to go into ayurveda. The entire scene is pretty bad. It is either naive westerners or crooked Indians for the most part. Then patients do not follow because the amount of a leap it takes for them to is like light years from what they do and know. Even Western medicine doctors have the biggest challenge with patient follow thru. Can look that up.
After spending your energy and time and care teaching and healing someone, in just a year after, they are back to the same things that created their disease initially, most all the time. So in reality you have enabled them.

Ayurveda in foreign countries is like Yoga. The yoga teachers all have very little knowledge because the education is so bad, yet they believe that this practice that they do somehow makes them spiritual and it boosts the ego. the teaching thing is a power thing. Our Western anatomy and physiology as well as exercise science did not exist 5000 years ago. Nothing in yoga is based in that stuff. Yet because this is the only paradigm known, that is what is taught.

I hope you find all of this in the honest light that it is given. Very very raw honesty.

Wish you the best of luck.
