Comments on nonduality
There are several kinds of non-duality.
Most people who talk about Advaita does not know the meaning of this term.
There Advaita Vedanta of Śaṃkara. There has Avaita Vedanta without Śaṃkara. And there has Advaitas not Vedantas (not to mention Vedantas not Advaitas). Vedanta means here “which is based on the Upanishads,” complex oral corpus and filled with apparently contradictory ideas about the world, its origin, the nature of consciousness, etc.., But also how to lead his wife to the stick to have a son (not a daughter).
According to some, the Advaita Vedanta Advaita is the “traditional”.
But there are several kinds of Advaita Vedanta.
There is one of Śaṃkara. To know him, read his works, difficult, even when translated from Sanskrit.
According to some connoisseurs Śaṃkara as Swami Satchidanandendra the tradition of Advaita Vedanta which claims Śaṃkara betrayed Śaṃkara.
“tradition of Advaita Vedanta” is not Orthodox if we take the work Śaṃkara as a criterion for membership in the tradition of Advaita Vedanta.
The tradition of Advaita Vedanta betrays Śaṃkara because it relies on other source that works Śaṃkara. For example, Vivekacūḍāmaṇi is not Śaṃkara but some Śaṃkarānanda (ie fifteenth century).
This 10-but-not-traditional Orthodox néovedānta is largely inspired by the Yogavāsiṣṭha (ie the twelfth century?), Which is Advaita Vedanta but not.
Rāmakṛṣṇa, Vivekananda, Aurobindo Śrī etc.. are not the Vedanta.
Ramana Maharishi 12, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Atmananda Menon, etc.. are not the Vedanta.
Poonja, aka Papaji, is not Vedanta.
For all these spiritual masters, the inspiration is not Advaita Vedanta or traditional shamkarien but not Advaita Vedantic texts such as Yogavāsiṣṭha the Vivekacūḍāmaṇi, the Aṣṭavakragītā, etc..
All their followers are not the Vedanta or traditional or neo.
