The cracks, thats how the light gets in

The birds they sang
at the break of day (prakrti)
Start again (rebirth)
I heard them say
Don’t dwell on what
has passed away
or what is yet to be. (presence, being, embodiment)
Ah the wars they will
be fought again (karma)
The holy dove
She will be caught again
bought and sold
and bought again (materialism and spiritual materialism)
the dove is never free. (maya)(material, living in the illusion, in the world)

Ring the bells that still can ring (vidya – wisdom)
Forget your perfect offering (seva – service)
There is a crack in everything (its is all in ignorance, darkness)
That’s how the light gets in.

We asked for signs
the signs were sent
the birth betrayed (human birthright of awareness and much more than life as it is in modern times)
the marriage spent (marriage of individual with universal)
Yeah the widowhood
of every government —
signs for all to see. (material world)

I can’t run no more (renunciation)
with that lawless crowd (of the material world, society, culture)
while the killers in high places (the power that be, religion, even the gurus, yes, even the gurus that feed on the ignorant)
say their prayers out loud.
But they’ve summoned, they’ve summoned up
a thundercloud (the fire that burns, the deep process)
and they’re going to hear from me. (still holding on to maya)

Ring the bells that still can ring … (nada, vidya)

You can add up the parts (stepping into authenticity and out of compartmentalized material life)
but you won’t have the sum (not within the maya)
You can strike up the march, (dogmatic believe without knowledge or discernment)
there is no drum (without deep knowledge there is no embodiment, no path, it is a concept only and remains without shakti)
Every heart, every heart (all is one)
to love will come (thru the fire)
but like a refugee. (It is only through the breaking of the heart thru the opening of the eyes, the grief that is then worked thru and embodied and released, that the heart is cleansed and true love of a higher source comes)

Ring the bells that still can ring (puja)
Forget your perfect offering (true seva)
There is a crack, a crack in everything (the tapas, the fire, the transformational process)
That’s how the light gets in. (the divine)

Ring the bells that still can ring (puja)
Forget your perfect offering (selfless service)
There is a crack, a crack in everything (the duality)
That’s how the light gets in. (the nondual)
That’s how the light gets in.
That’s how the light gets in.
